My Dad, My Hero

Dad, You were and are my hero.
You were my secure foundation.
When I think of you, I’m filled with love
And fond appreciation.
You protected me;
I was sheltered by your care.
You were always my true friend; and Dad,
When I needed you, you were always there.
You have a place of honor
Deep within my heart.
No one has protected me or loved me as you.
You always looked for the joy and positive in my life.
You kept me focused and positive.
You lifted me.
You were my superhero, Dad,
Right from the very start.
I miss you and love you.

  1. Tracy, I worked with Courtney on 5west and saw this link on her Facebook. I just lost my Dad on Sept 29 and my parents 51st anniversary was on Oct 5, the day I read this. You have captured my feelings so completely. What a beautiful poem, thank you!

      Hello,

My heart aches for you. Losing my father was definitely an extremely difficult time in my life. My mom, my brothers–all us struggled for years. One of the greatest things you can do for yourself is write down all the wonderful memories you have of your dad or really anything in his memory–artwork, a garden, workout and think about those treasured memories and above all–learn to laugh through the tears. There is not a day that goes by that I do not think about my dad, and it’s been 12 years. He left a huge footprint in our life full of laughs, lessons, and joy. I am sure your dad blessed you with many great memories as well. Treasure them, keep smiling through your storm, your heart will hold his memory, and your quiet times will bring you peace. I will forward my dad’s eulogy to your email; I am blessed each time I read it. If you have not already, write down your own thoughts about your dad, even if they are just for you. The comfort you will receive from re-reading your notes for years to come is heartwarming. My prayers to you and your family.
