Always be Batman, Mason, Always!

Over the summer (2014), Emily (my niece) and both boys were in track.  One evening on our way home, all three of them were extremely rowdy and unruly.  They were screaming and talking over one another and throwing items at each other. It was circus-like in the van.

“Okay guys!  —  Had enough!”  —  I say it a little louder  —  “Have had ENOUGH!”             Emily stops; Trevor tries to stop.  Mason, on the otherhand, did not even consider stopping.  He was on a roll.

“Mason! Please stop! Please calm down! Calm down! Lord have mercy! Calm down!”

Mason who is still keyed up for fun and obnoxious and loud silliness screams out, “Hey, Mom! Here’s some apples!” He then whips a small bag of rotten apple slices to me while I’m driving. He laughs so hard I know it had to hurt his gut.

“Mason! Why?! Why?!”  He still continues laughing hysterically.

I finally with a note of defeat say, “Please stop! Just stop!”

Mason then puts his Batman mask on and says, “Then, I will be Batman!”  That’s all he said. He just magically stopped when he put the Batman mask on.

Believe it or not, Mason sat quietly as Batman the rest of the way home.  And, my thoughts on the way home were:

“Please just be Batman, Mason.  —  Please just be Batman.  —  Always be Batman, Mason, always.”

Then, each time I looked in my rearview mirror, I saw this little boy staring back at me and being Batman. He was  adorable. And, all I wanted to do was laugh and laugh.BatMan
